Nanuq is a cross-platform, open-source music player. It is written in C++ using the Qt framework.
Nanuq is distibuted under the GPLv3 Liscence.

What makes Nanuq different from other music players ?

Nanuq is designed to be used by families. Families have several computers, several accounts on these computers, and sevral users.
Nanuq is designed to share everyone's music over the network using a network disk.

Imagine Tom and Bob, two brothers. They both have a laptop, and share a desktop with two accounts, one for Tom, one for Bob. Tom saves his musics on the desktop. Bob is too lazy to go get his laptop upstairs, so he uses the desktop to go on internet. Now Tom has to synchronize his iPod.
If Tom uses a classical music manager, such as iTunes, he has to wait for Bob to finish using the desktop.
BUT if Tom uses Nanuq, he uses his laptop, opens Nanuq and has access to the whole music library and can syncronize his iPod.

Another case where Nanuq is usefull is saving disk usage.
Take the example of Tom and Bob again. They both love Nirvana.
If they use a classical music manager, each one will have a copy of "Rape me" in their music collection. This means having twice the song, so using twice more disk usage. This might not seam much, but if they have 10 GB of music in common, they will store twice these 10 GB, which takes 20 GB. Now if they use Nanuq, the 10 GB will be on the network disk and will take 10 GB not 20, but Tom and Bob will still be able to access their music from any computer.

Why you shouldn't use Nanuq.
